Dance 10, Looks 3?

At the Susan Rethorst audition my neighbor confesses:“I don’t know much about her, except what I saw on Google last night. How has she flown under the radar for so long?”

Home Wreckers

I don’t think Rethorst’s intention is to site dance as a normal everyday affair, though she has consistently shown the ways I’ve been overlooking the dance that can be found in the simple clarity of attention to form.

Behold Bold sounds like...

By Anna Drozdowski, January 28, 2013

I was in the studio with Susan, Eun Jung, Bronwen and Gabrielle for a few hours this afternoon. And I’m working with Meg on her piece that marries movement and sound, so had that on the brain. This is what the first part of the run-thru sounded like:

Yep.
Okay from the beginning. Bah, but buh buh

Shuffle shuffle headshake.
Good. Yeah, yeah yeah yeah.

Spacing.
Shuffle, shuffle. Thwap.

You know, I think it’s, like….a little flirty.

So that’s good in that.
Creaky creak, whosh, thwop.

Who yanks?
First she yanks me.

Good. Yeah, yeah yeah.
Good. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Good. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yes, as big as the yank, which will be easier in a different space.

And when you come around that can be really exaggerated. Then this is very deliberate, and also very exaggerated. Like: “I am doing this. Hello…!”

Hmm hmm hmm HUH HUH.
Good.
Shufffle shuffle.
Thunk, thwap-
Oh.

Do you wanna do that section one more time or go on?
Gabi needs to know about the GUH.    Like this: guhwhopableblse…

Oh yea, well that explains it.
You know, it disorients you…abuh buh buh.    Thunk.
--Giggles--
Oh, I got that part!   When does that start [the disorientation]?

The whole dance.
